Wifi and Travel

Public wifi (in cafes, hotels and airports) is often not secure. Avoid doing important transactions such as banking or shopping over public wifi (as the information you transmit is probably not encrypted and may be easy to intercept). Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to protect the data you transmit (like passwords and credit card details). Use of a VPN also allows you to access content from outside NZ (eg Netflix or other streaming services), which you should only do if it is legal to do so.

We recommend NordVPN. Purchase NordVPN for only $4.13/month (for 2 years).

Pro tip: Install the HTTPS Everywhere extension into Chrome Browser (or Firefox or Opera).

HTTPS Everywhere encrypts communications with many significant websites, so you can browse more securely.

You can also protect your data when charging your device with a USB Data Blocker (buy on Amazon).

If you are travelling consider 1Password as your password manager as it has a dedicated Travel Mode.
